Yamatake Corporation, in order to accelerate the pace of advanced technological research leading to future corporate growth, will construct a 6-story laboratory building with a total floor space of 6,050m2 at the Fujisawa Technology Center in Kanagawa, Japan.
The advanced technology laboratory building will comprise a “clean room” experimentation floor for technological development of state-of-the-art sensors such as micro gas sensors and sapphire sensors, as well as development in the life science field. Another floor will be dedicated to multipurpose experimentation, with facilities for materials analysis and wind tunnel experiments, and anechoic chambers. This laboratory building will serve to consolidate the laboratory facilities presently spread out at different factories. Also, the Environmental Engineering Research Center in Tokyo will be transferred and integrated for the purpose of increasing efficiency in environmental control technology research.
In order to reduce the risk of disrupting operations due to earthquakes, this laboratory building will incorporate an earthquake-resistant damping structure.
In December 2006, the staff involved in research and development and engineering who had hitherto been spread out at different factories were concentrated at the Fujisawa Technology Center. This integration strengthened communication and synergy among staff, significantly shortened the process between basic research and product development as well as between engineering stages, and accelerated the development of businesses. It also merged technologies for building automation and industrial automation, and improved Yamatake’s capabilities to provide one-stop solutions for the entire factory, from factory HVAC to production line control. With the construction of the advanced technology laboratory building, the laboratory facilities will be concentrated in a single location, which will further increase efficiency and speed up research and development.
Construction of the advanced technology laboratory building will begin in December 2007 and completion is planned for December 2008. Estimated investment, including appurtenant work, is approximately ¥2 billion.
